Payroll for people who build things
Skip the Sunday night scramble. SmithWorks Back Office™ is payroll done for you, without the surprises.
I run payroll so you don’t have to.
You have enough to manage as a small business owner in construction or the trades. I give you time back to focus on your business, plus the insight to know what labor is costing you.
- I run your payroll, and you approve. Your CPA keeps your taxes. I never touch a return.
- I answer your calls. I’m a Polk County local who knows your business.
- You see clear labor costs. I provide a one-page labor report every month to inform your job costing.
It’s that simple.
- Overtime share of hours
- 6%
- Loaded cost per hour
- $31
91 of 1,571 hours. August was 4%.
On a $26 average wage, after taxes and workers’ comp.
What I’d do this month
Lake Alfred warehouse buildout ran 38 overtime hours. The time-and-a-half premium alone was $494, about 4% of that job’s wages. If the bid assumed straight time, that came out of margin. Rotate a second crew before the next warehouse job, or bid the overtime in.
Who I work with
I help general contractors, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, roofers, framers, landscapers, and other site-work companies of 5 to 25 employees with their payroll. SmithWorks Back Office is not for one-person shops, 100-person companies, or anyone who’s looking for a help desk instead of a person.
